Coati (Coat-e) the Coatimundi (Quat-a-moon-day) is Tiny Tot Sports’
world’s greatest athlete, cheerleader and best buddy all rolled
into one crazy, cool package. Coati loves to play any sport and, to him,
learning a new sport and its rules is just fun. Coati also loves music
and to make friends. He has never met a kid he didn’t like. Coati
likes to meet all kinds of people – he doesn’t care whether
they are a boy or a girl, where they come from or even what language they
speak – Coati wants to be their friend.
Coati loves to travel. He comes from South America and will go anyplace
he can. He loves being part of Tiny Tot Sports because it brings kids
together from all over the world. Coati thinks it is great that Tiny Tot
Sports can teach kids about all kinds of sports and how to be a good sport
at the same time.
Coati enjoys taking pictures and drawing. When he travels for Tiny Tot
Sports, he takes pictures of the new friends he meets along the way. He
enjoys reading about sports and the places he plans to visit. He loves
trying new foods from all over the world. Maybe he’ll be in your
town soon!
About the Coatimundi
The Coatimundi, also known as the White-nosed Coati, is diurnal, living both
on the ground and in the trees. This member of the raccoon family is omnivorous,
feeding on fruits, invertebrates, and other small animals. They feed by
using their long noses, poking them under rocks and into crevices, and
by using their long claws to dig holes or tear apart rotting logs.
The Coati, often is seen in large groups of up to 30 individuals. When
surprised, the entire group will leap into the trees while emitting clicking
and explosive “woof” type of sounds. During the night, Coatis
sleep in tree tops on nests made of leaves and branches.
Coatimundis are found throughout Central America and are quite common
in Belize where they are known as quash.
